Description of the Fenix PD36R V2.0 flashlight:

The PD36R V2.0 is a representative of the Fenix PD line of flashlights, aimed at tactical use. This flashlight is an improved analogue of the basic version of the PD36R.

The changes affected a number of key parameters. In particular, the light output has increased to 1700 lumens (the brightness of the basic flashlight does not exceed 1600 lumens). The beam range has also increased to 396 meters and the duration of autonomous operation, which reaches 482 hours in minimum mode, which is equivalent to 20 days.

The flashlight has one built-in white Luminus SFT40 LED (6500K) with a service life of about 50 thousand hours. Thanks to the smooth reflector, the beam has a clearly defined central spot with minimal side glare, allowing for high-quality illumination of objects at long distances.

Operating modes

The light output of the PD36R V2.0 starts at 5 lumens in Eco mode. The interface has a total of six lighting options, including a flashing strobe, suitable for providing bright light signals in an emergency situation.

The flashlight has overheating protection, which reduces the brightness of the operating mode when the temperature of the internal electronics exceeds a threshold of 60 C. Taking this option into account, the operating time at maximum power is indicated together with the glow time in less bright modes.

Control features

The model has a combined type of control: using a tactical button in the tail and a side electronic switch. Each button is responsible for a separate functionality:

• Turning the flashlight on and off: Half-pressing the tail button is responsible for instant activation of the light, which goes out as soon as the user removes their finger from the button. To turn on constant lighting, you need to press the button in the tail all the way down. The lighting is turned off in a similar way.
• Switching between modes: A single click of the side switch when the light is on changes the current mode to the next, less powerful one.
• Activating the strobe: Holding the side switch for 0.5 seconds turns on the flashing mode. Pressing it again returns to the constant light mode.

An intelligent memory circuit is another useful option in the PD36R V2.0. Thus, the user does not need to search for a favorite mode again when turned on, the flashlight automatically activates the brightness that was used before turning it off (except for the flashing strobe).

Power source

The package already includes one 21700 li-ion battery, namely Fenix ARB-L21-5000 V2.0, which can withstand about 800 charge-discharge cycles. Due to the high capacity of 5000 mAh, immunity to the memory effect and the influence of temperature changes, the element provides uninterrupted power supply to the flashlight. The operating voltage of the model is 4.2 V, and the operating current is 3 A.

The manufacturer also allows the use of 21700 li-ion batteries from other manufacturers with the flashlight, provided that their nominal supply voltage is 3.6 V.

The USB Type-C charging port is built into the flashlight head and covered with a cap. The port supports 18W fast charging technology (9V/2A), so the charging process takes no more than 2.5 hours.

The flashlight also has a battery level indicator that automatically activates for 3 seconds each time the light is activated.

The indicator works when using a Fenix ARB-L21 battery of size 21700.

Li-ion batteries without a protection board, as well as batteries of size 18650, 16340 and CR123A are not compatible with this lighting device!

Physical parameters

A6061-T6 aluminum is the body material, and the HAIII type anodized coating protects against traces of oxidation and corrosion. The hardness of the alloy guarantees the preservation of the functionality of the internal electronics in a situation where the device has fallen from a height of 1-1.5 meters. The tightness of the casing according to the IP68 class prevents moisture from entering the inside if the flashlight is immersed in water to a depth of up to 2 meters.

The dimensions of the PD36R V2.0 are 140.7 mm (length) x 26.5 mm (head diameter) x 25.5 mm (tail diameter). The weight of the flashlight with the battery is 167 grams.

The model is comfortable to hold, as there is a fine knurling on the surface. The pocket clip is made of titanium and is removable.
