Description of the Fenix PD40R V3.0 flashlight:
The PD40R V3.0 flashlight — is an improved version of the V2.0 model, which boasts an almost quarter-increased light range of up to 500 meters and the presence of another auxiliary SOS mode in addition to the usual strobe.
This handheld model is a bright representative of the third generation of Fenix flashlights with improved light performance and minor improvements that increase ease of use. The changes affected, among other things, the built-in LED — the V3.0 flashlight uses the Luminus SFT70 diode, which generates a longer-range beam with a color temperature of 6500K. The LED lasts for at least 50 thousand hours, which is equivalent to 5.7 years.
Operating modes
The available modes can be divided into two groups: options with constant light with a brightness of 30 to 3000 lumens and flashing SOS and strobe modes.
- Turbo: 3000 lumens – 60,954 candelas – 500 meters – 2 hours 40 minutes;
- High: 1000 lumens – 22,648 candelas – 300 meters – 3 hours 10 minutes;
- Medium: 350 lumens – 7684 candelas – 175 meters – 8 hours 30 minutes;
- Low: 30 lumens – 612 candelas – 50 meters – 89 hours;
- SOS: 350 lumens;
- Strobe: 3000 lumens.
When using Turbo mode, please note that the specified duration of the glow is calculated in the sum of operation at lower brightness levels, which are activated in the event of overheating protection. This option allows you to avoid excessive overheating of the internal electronics due to heat accumulation during operation at maximum power.
When the temperature of the electronics drops to an acceptable value, the user can activate the brightest mode again.
Control features
The Fenix PD40R V3.0 is controlled using a mechanical rotary switch.
Step-by-step rotation of the ring allows you to change the available operating modes one by one.
Power source
One Li-ion battery of the popular 21700 size is suitable for powering the flashlight. A power source of this type can be found in the basic configuration — This is a branded ARB-L21-5000 V2.0 battery, designed specifically for powering electronics with high power consumption (the ARB-L21-5000 battery from Fenix is not suitable for powering the PD40R V3.0, since the operating current of the flashlight exceeds 14 A). The operating voltage of the model is in the range from 2.8 V to 4.2 V.
The manufacturer has equipped the model with a waterproof USB Type-C charging port, so the flashlight can be charged away from home using a portable Power Bank. A USB charging cable is included. Charging takes about 3 hours.
Physical parameters
The body material is durable A6061-T6 aluminum, resistant to rust and resistant to scratches thanks to premium HAIII anodizing. The metal structure is machined on high-precision CNC machines.
In the head of the housing, under the rotary switch, there are multiple deep ribs for effective cooling of the LED during operation in the brightest modes.
The Fenix PD40R V3.0 is protected from debris and water according to the highest IP68 standard. The flashlight can be used in any weather, regardless of the humidity level. The permissible air temperature for operation is -35°C - 45°C. In addition, due to complete tightness, the electronics remain operational even if the model falls into water, and the impact resistance of the structure is 1.5 meters.
The dimensions of the flashlight body are 143 x 34 x 26 millimeters. It can be carried in a pocket of clothing, stored in a case with a belt loop or attached to ammunition using a clip. The weight of the structure is 198 grams.
The design of the model with a flat tail allows the user to install the lighting device in a vertical position. The flashlight is compatible with such branded accessories as the Fenix AOD-M diffusion filter, which makes the light diffused, and the Fenix AOF-M red light filter.
