The ComTac VII hearing protection headset is the most important component of the Tactical Modular Audio System (TMAS) and part of the latest generation of tactical communication and hearing protection solutions from 3M Peltor for military, police and special operations forces.

The headset's wireless design significantly increases the user's freedom of movement, reduces setup and preparation time, and helps prevent damage and equipment failure due to cable breakage.
Previously, tactical headsets have always connected to the PTT unit via a cable.
However, the ComTac VII uses Near Field Magnetic Induction (NFMI) to connect wirelessly to the SCU-300 central unit. NFMI — is a short-range wireless transmission in which communication occurs by means of a non-propagating magnetic field (less than 1 meter) between devices.
The user has the ability to hear sounds and speech from the environment through the built-in ambient microphones on both sides of the headset and, if necessary, amplify them (tactical advantage). Despite this perception of the environment, the hearing protection function remains unchanged.
How it works: external microphones allow the perception and amplification of ambient noise, and the hearing is protected by optimal sound insulation in accordance with EN 352. Sudden impulse noise is simultaneously reduced to a permissible maximum of 82 dB.
The ambient sound listening mode is available in classic and extended modes. Classic mode allows you to adjust the volume in four steps, increasing or decreasing (louder/quieter) the sound level to listen to ambient noise.
Advanced mode includes four preset settings («Mission Audio Profiles»), optimized for different sound profiles:
- Comfort mode
- Talk mode
- Patrol mode
- Surveillance mode
Double protection: In addition to the headset, the TMAS system also includes the TEP 300 electronic earplugs (ordered separately). Ideal for combined acoustic protection, they can also be worn under the ComTac VII. They are designed to achieve an overall noise reduction of over 40 dB.
«Double Protection» means that even the noise emissions of a helicopter taking off or firing artillery or large-caliber long-range weapons are reduced to harmless levels, while the ability to communicate is fully maintained.
Built-in Duplex Intercom(NIB)
Gives the user faster access to critical communications: even if the ambient noise level is high, the user can talk to people around them in full duplex without restrictions thanks to the built-in function NIB(two-way local radio built into the headset). , if the volume is above 80 dB. Below are external microphones for environmental awareness, which automatically offer the possibility of direct communication with the team in the area.
The NIB provides electronic communication between the headsets at a distance of about 10 meters from the speaker. The number of possible recipients within this transmission range is unlimited.
It is impossible to eavesdrop or even determine your location from a distance due to the extremely low transmission power.
Voice transmission can be initiated by pressing the PTT button on the headset, or controlled by voice using the built-inVOX (voice transmission) function.
The VOX function leaves your hands free and the user can act independently.
Military approval: Tested according to the relevant parts of the MIL-STD-810G and EMC-MIL-STD-461G standards.
